Murals on Main is a mural festival spearheaded by the Rogers City Main Street program. Taking part in our Public Spaces, Community Places (PSCP) grant program, the Rogers City Main Street program is looking to raise $50,000 to bring in national, international, and local artists to activate unused walls in the downtown. Designed by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in collaboration with the Michigan Municipal League, PSCP is a crowd granting initiative that can provide matching grant funds for crowdfunded public space projects through Patronicity, an online, crowdfunding platform.Check out their project! Good luck, Rogers City!https://lnkd.in/gdfHcNqX

We all know it’s been a rough year, with the cost-of-living crisis leaving many kiwis with little money or access to much of the kai available. It’s time we all band together to pitch in for those in our communities who need some support.Earlier this week, one of our incredible collaborators the New Zealand Food Network, launched a 12 month fundraising campaign - Pitch In! If you’ve yet to hear about their mahi, NZFN is dedicated towards creating food access and redistributing kai around Aotearoa. Their passion is evident, as shown in their mahi within XLabs NZ and New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3 Charitable Trust (NZFWC 12.3 Trust). CEO Gavin Findlay recently joined us at XLabs earlier this year to redesign a new food system along other leading food organisations, whilst Deborah Manning (Founder & Strategic Engagement Advisor) is an active Trustee and Food Waste Champion alongside our Founder & CEO Louise Nash.Pitch In is an exciting campaign providing a helping hand to those in our community in need. By pitching in to fill up Eden Park in Tāmaki Makaurau with kai as many times as possible, we can provide “100,000 meals for hungry Kiwis each time around”.Be a part of the team, it’s as easy as heading to http://pitchin.org.nz/ to make a donation.$25 =10 meals$50 = 20 meals$100 = 40 mealsAnd there’s an option to customise how much you want to donate.Every dollar makes a difference to our whānau in need around Aotearoa.Let’s all pitch in together!#PItchIn #NZFNhttps://lnkd.in/gX-89jm5

Some of you may well be aware of Derby Uncovered and our mission to promote the history and heritage of Derby, as well as the what's on and where to go in Derby today - in little over a year we've launched a newspaper, held physical events, published books, and organised walks.Derby Uncovered CIC is the next stage in that process.Derby Uncovered CIC is a community interest company that has been founded with the aim of revitalising city centre properties - particularly within the historic Cathedral Quarter. We thought there might be a few questions regarding it, so here's some FAQ's to get us started:What is a Community Interest Company (CIC)?A CIC is a special type of limited company which exists to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. All CIC's are asset locked - this means that the company’s assets will only be used for its social objectives. In addition to this dividend payments are capped limiting the amount of money it can pay its shareholders. So why set up a CIC? Derby Uncovered CIC has been set up as a fully regulated company that is eligible to apply for funding from organisations such as the National Lottery and the Community Ownership Fund. With grant funding we can achieve much more and at a much greater pace.Have you begun to apply for funds already? Yes. We very recently passed the Expression of Interest stage of the Community Ownership Fund. This means we can now apply for funding of £250,000 from them in the Winter 2023 application stage. How can I help? There's lots of ways. Though our intent is to source funding, often that funding requires that we raise a certain amount ourselves, so donations would of course be appreciated and we will also need volunteers with spare time to help us fundraise. Our contribution to fundraising can often be "in-kind" as well. This means that if any local businesses or tradespeople provide their time to us free of charge, that might count as donated funds - if you can help that way then we'd be very grateful. What sort of people are you looking for to get involved? Positive people. Derby has both a wonderful history and heritage and a great deal of things that we can be proud of. Let's take that pride and use it as a driving force to make positive changes.Do you have any initial ideas for community-led premises? Yes. If you visit our website- www.derbyuncoveredcic.org - you'll be able to see the initial projects we'd like to undertake and we'd very much like your opinions on them. Are we already looking at properties within the area? Yes. We are in negotiations already in an attempt to secure a Cathedral Quarter property on a short-term basis to enable us to move forward with our projects and are also looking at other properties in the area. We are confident that there are various options or suitable locations within the area for everything we want to achieve and with your support we can aim big.Like what you've read? Then please get in touch.

After years of prioritizing partisan politics over art, America's entertainment industry is in crisis. In Hollywood everyone--from hair-dressers and grips to studio executives--either can't find work, or is being laid off.Live theatre in particular has been struggling:Since theatres reopened in 2022, an estimated 30% of the audience hasn't returned, and theatres across America are desperately cutting corners...or closing outright. Experts have predicted as much as a 50% contraction of the business this year. Such failure is even more stark when you consider that OTHER forms of live entertainment--from pop music to pro-wrestling--are THRIVING.In spite of all this, however, in just 8 weeks I managed to raise nearly $150,000 to write and star in a play. This, as all but the top 1% of actors resign themselves to not making a living doing theatre like they used to.The success of the Sowell campaign indicates there are plenty of people willing to invest in art they want to see. They just want to see it done by people who don't hate them.

The government's Community Ownership Fund has been extended to allow applications from local councils for the first time. The Community Ownership Fund is a government programme with £150m over four years run by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to help communities take ownership of assets at risk of closure across the UK.NALC has been lobbying the government to extend the fund's eligibility to local councils. Only community and voluntary organisations have been allowed to apply, with all types of councils excluded. In addition to allowing applications from local councils, other changes to the fund include increasing the amount of funding all projects can bid for from £250,000 to £1m and the requirement for match-funding reduced to as low as 10%.Round three of the fund launched on 11 May and aims to support community ownership projects such as sports facilities, arts and music venues, museums and galleries, parks, pubs, post offices and shops.https://lnkd.in/ezhvZACF https://lnkd.in/e-MQxA3E #gaptc #localgov

The fourth and final post in our “Breathe the Mission into your Fundraising Event” series. If you haven’t viewed our last three posts and videos, please go back and review to fully understand this specific post.We started this series with that special moment watching the children at Academy Prep Centers for Education passionately saying that daily convocation in the school hall.We then saw the teachers, staff, and alumni leading the guests at the Gala event in reciting that convocation. And how about that impactful video that was shown before the Bid from the Heart (Paddle Raise)? Now it's GO time. Time to maximize the emotional impact and transform emotion into giving. At Auction Horizon, we believe everything that happens on the fundraising stage should be with the intent of maximizing fundraising potential and building giving momentum. The wording is intentional. Gestures are intentional. Energy is intentional. Emotion is intentional. We also know that time is of the essence when it comes to maximizing the money raised. For this reason, we work very closely with the client on timing and scripting.Adrian and Da’Shaun, the alumni featured in the impact video shared in yesterday’s post, were able to attend the event amid their busy schedules. The big question was: How do we incorporate these two gentlemen into the giving moment after the very impactful video without losing momentum and too much very precious fundraising time? The result can be seen in this video.Adrian and Da’Shaun walked onto that stage after the video and became part of the fundraising team. The positioning on stage was intentional. The scripting was intentional. They opened the door for Tarryn to introduce that first big level and maximize the power of the give at $25,000. The final part of breathing that Mission into the audience. The result? $125,000 raised on the first level of giving.A few hundred thousand dollars raised over the remaining levels. To sum it all up, many components go into a successful fundraising event, but MISSION is front and center.#breathethemissionintoyourevent #auctionhorizon #fundraisinghttps://lnkd.in/enV42sf9

Warning: incoming non-Future Fields related post! For those in my network that are unfamiliar with Edmonton winters, they can be pretty brutal. Temperatures regularly reach -30 degrees Celsius (next week’s forecast has a low of -31). And yet, chronic homelessness persists at crises levels. Shelters don’t have enough capacity forcing many to spend their nights in the cold. On top of that, Edmonton Police Service just swept the city and dismantled all the encampments, leaving many without any shelter while we head into a brutal cold snap. The point is - winters are really, really tough for thousands in Edmonton. Fortunately, organizations like Boyle Street Community Services exist to provide critical services to those that need it. But Boyle Street, like other similar organizations, are chronically underfunded. So last year, my pal Ryan Brodziak and I teamed up to found the the Cold City Classic - a 12 hour outdoor cycling event to raise money for organizations that provide these critical services. In our inaugural year, myself and 4 friends biked 165km and raised nearly $8,000. This year, we’re doing it again but we’re going even bigger. On January 20th, I’ll be riding alongside ~20 other brave cyclists from 8am to 8pm in Edmonton’s river valley to raise money for Boyle Street. If you’re able and willing, your support would be greatly appreciated! Donations can be made by simply e-transfer to info@coldcityclassic.com. Alternatively, if you’d like to pledge a $/km for a participating rider, you can submit a pledge here: https://lnkd.in/g_gneKFBAll funds raised will go directly to Boyle Street Community Services. For more information, you can check out our website at www.coldcityclassic.com. Any support goes a long way!
