Dominique Turpin, former IMD President and now European Dean at CEIBS, observes that business schools have often not kept up with the times. Certainly, traditional business schools are being challenged by new players in the management and executive education field. New management and executive education initiatives are emerging out of knowledge-rich consultancies or service companies: including Swiss Re, the world’s leadingreinsurer. The Swiss Re Institute’s (SRI) executive education arm https://lnkd.in/e8EPUAyr is bringing the company’s deep knowledge and expertise on risk into the classroom. Their approach follows many of the observations made by Dominique on how business schools should go about improving their ‘business...Rethink research more broadly: Business gurus write few academic papers. Toachieve greater impact, schools need to define research broadly and encourage their faculty to publish in whatever format, and whatever publication, works best (I guess, what is fit for purpose). The SRI is drawing on its entire range of R&D to build innovative curricula.Create areas of expertise: This includesbreaking up academic departments or silos, cutting across traditional disciplines to brings together people from different eco-systems. Alternatively, schools should develop “fields of expertise”.Such specialisation is clearly the focus of an SRI dedicated to the risk management and mitigation sector.Involve stakeholders and take action: In many ways the SRI courses are being co-developed with clients and other stakeholders.Empower ‘change champions’ to speed up action: The SRI’s efforts to spread knowledge make it a ‘change agent’ on an industry level. Their hope is that they can help develop individual change agents that will have impact in their own organisations.Dominique also observes that traditional discipline-based courses-eg basic marketing or basic finances -may need to be reduced tomake room for ‘new topics’ such as AI, digital transformation, ESG, and cybersecurity. The latter topics are the bread and butter of SRI’s state-of-the-art research and teaching.

Do you want to know how Australia's universities are seeking to improve their offerings to drive better student experience, digital enablement and cost effectiveness in student services? Have a read of our thought leadership below.Data-driven insights are key to understanding student needs and crafting tailored experiences and trusted data is at the heart of insight creation. The critical elements that must be in play include:- A data strategy that articulates what is needed to ensure institutional data can be trusted, and captures the value and uses of data across the university. – An investment roadmap that links data enhancements to the sequenced investments in other parts of the operating model to achieve any necessary uplifts. – Data governance that provides oversight to the collection, management and use of data across its whole lifecycle and enables trusted data through the allocation of data ownership accountabilities. – Clear universal data models that create consistent definitions and meaning across the data ontology. – Fit-for-purpose technical infrastructure to enable cost-effective data management (including warehouses, lakes and master data management tools sized to organisational need). – Widespread data literacy that facilitates broad use of data in decision-making. – Easily accessible data visualisation tools to drive the creation of insights. – A culture of evidence-based decision-making. Working together, these elements create a virtuous cycle of insight and action and create the platform for the effective use of AI. We would love to hear your thoughts.Well done on another fantastic thought leadership piece from KPMG Australia, authors Michelle King, Dr Julian Edwards, Cameron Fuller, Philip Barfield, Naren Sanghrajka and all the sector leaders who participated in this research.#data #AI #education #studentexperience

The course taught by Professor Milo Jones, is something I found most interesting not because of what I ‘expected’ but instead of what I ‘received’. I found this course to be a surprise, as the title does not do justice to the course content.Professor Milo Jones, highlights the importance of ‘embracing and strengthening’ the digital change instead of going against it. At the base Professor Milo expresses the importance in establishing practices that employ the correct processes to yield effective, intelligent and true results. The processes utilised by a true intelligence analysts is narrowed down to numerous simple frameworks and practices, and when these frameworks are used in unison with the current database of online information, it ‘maximises’ correct decision making.I was under the false initial impression that the processes and frameworks taught in this course allow for ‘easier’decision making. This courseprovided me tools and frameworks which ensure the correct utilisation of all aspects of the information present. It also gave me an ‘objective’ mindset which allows me to ensure no biases towards any hypotheses and in doing so, yields correctly processed information and a wide range of possible outcomes.Multiple correct outcomes with varying possible impacts does make decision making hard but that is exactly the point of this course, to provide the correct‘tools’ that will ensure the most efficient use of information present.I believe that this course has teachings that can be used in multiple disciplines. As a student majoring in marketing, the tools and frameworks presented in this course allow me to better analyse and understand information from a multitude of ranging perspectives.

🔍 Critical Thinking in the Digital Age: Navigating the Information Overload 🌐🧠💻 In an era where information is abundant but not always reliable, cultivating critical thinking skills is like having a superpower. Here's why it matters:1. Info Overload Challenge:In today's digital age, we encounter an overwhelming amount of information on a daily basis. This information comes from various sources, and not all of it is reliable or relevant. Critical thinking becomes crucial in this context as it allows individuals to navigate through this sea of data. It involves the ability to assess the credibility of sources, distinguish between reliable and biased information, and filter out irrelevant details. By honing critical thinking skills, individuals can identify trustworthy sources, analyze data objectively, and make well-informed decisions, thereby overcoming the challenge of information overload.2. Avoiding Misinformation Traps:The internet is a vast repository of information, but it's also a breeding ground for misinformation. Critical thinking acts as a protective shield against falling into misinformation traps. It encourages individuals, especially students, to approach information with a healthy dose of skepticism. Critical thinkers question the validity of information, seek evidence to support claims, and verify facts before accepting them as true. 3. Empowering Decision-Making:Critical thinking is instrumental in the decision-making process, whether it involves academic choices or personal decisions. It goes beyond simply considering options; it involves a thoughtful analysis of the pros and cons, the anticipation of potential outcomes, and aligning choices with overarching goals. This skill is invaluable in academic settings where students must make choices about courses and career paths, as well as in personal life where decisions impact one's well-being and future. Now, let's get practical! 💡 Here are some tips for students to develop and apply critical thinking:1. Question Everything:Encourage curiosity. Teach students to ask questions about what they read, hear, or see. Are there alternative viewpoints? What evidence supports the information?2. Diverse Perspectives:Exposure to diverse perspectives sharpens critical thinking. Discuss current events, encourage debates, and create an environment where students feel comfortable challenging ideas.3. Problem-Solving Exercises:Engage students in real-world problem-solving. It could be a case study, a project, or a scenario. Practical application enhances critical thinking skills.4. Digital Literacy:Equip students with digital literacy skills. From fact-checking websites to understanding algorithms, navigating the digital landscape requires a new set of skills.#cognitive #cognitivelearning #cognitivede#criticalthinking #digitalliteracy #educationinnovation #futureskills #informationoverload #digitalskills #criticalthinkingskills #digitalage
